SCHOOL CLOSING

SCHOOL CLOSING

Families of Covenant Academy,

Effective August 3, 2017 Covenant Academy will be closing its doors. It is with a heavy heart I write these words, but unfortunately due to a lack of enrollment we, as a board, are not able to put together a budget that is honoring to the Lord and meets the excellence you expect in education. We are aware that this will be a shock to some of you and for that we apologize. There have been countless hours spent in prayer, brainstorming, meeting, discussing and even seeking outside council for ways we could offer a 2017-2018 school year, but time after time, idea after idea, it all ended up with an insurmountable financial deficit. We have labored over operating without a head of school, combining classes, reducing payroll, operating on a skeleton budget, seeking donations, and even assessing parents but still have been unable to find a viable solution. I feel we have done everything we could to prevent the school from closing, but at the end of the day the only decision that seems right and honoring to Christ is to close the school.

Please know this is not an easy decision, even writing this letter is difficult, but some serious work begins now to liquidate our assets, pay back tuitions already collected, and pay off debts. We currently have some major financial strains, so your patience is appreciated. It is our goal to refund every portion of tuition collected for the 2017-2018 school year in a timely manner, but we will not be able to refund any enrollment fees, we simply do not have the finances available. We ask for your forgiveness as a board, and hope you can show us some grace as we are doing the best we can to make this all work.

Moving forward we also know your biggest concern will probably be where do I send my child to school? The Hill Country offers a variety of private school options. We are aware it is late in the registration process, but there are still private and public schools enrolling for the 2017-2018 school year in Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and Boerne. This is one of the reasons we have decided to make this decision and not delay any longer. The last thing we want to do is close the doors in October or November and send you scrambling in the middle of the semester to find a place for your kids. That being said we are here to make available to you anything you need for those schools enrollment processes. There will be somebody at the school tomorrow and Monday thru Wednesday from 8-5 or you can email us at info@covenantacademy.org.

I know this doesn’t answer all your questions or concerns. Some of you are sad, some mad, some disappointed, some in denial. As a board we can relate and have walked through all of those stages in the last several days ourselves including desperation. My hope is that God will give you the peace he has given us about this decision. Like you I must find somewhere for our 3 girls to attend school, like you I have already committed financially to Covenant, and like you I have a Lord and Savior who is in control and uses all things for my good in growing more like Him. Part of trials is learning, what a humbling and joyful experience it has been leading this school. He’s taught me I cannot fix everything and that I don’t always need to be in control. I appreciate each and every one of you, your children, and your families for supporting Covenant. This school and what it was created for will be missed in this community.

In His Grace,

Heath C. Gregory

President, Covenant School Board
